What oil should you use for your Bongo?

Mazda Bongo Friendee and Ford Freda for standard UK operating temperatures use 10W/30 oil or in colder climates use 5W-30.

As an alternative 10W/40 is suitable or failing that 15W/40.

Changing Oil

It is important to keep a schedule of regular oil changes at 3,000 miles. You’ll need 6 litres of 10W/30 oil for the Bongo according to Mazda.

You will need

  • 2.5 Turbo Diesel 6 litres of 10W/30 oil (see below for other engines)
  • Copper washer for sump plug
  • Oil filter (every other oil change and ADD 0.5 litre additional oil)

Place a bowl under the sump plug and undo it using a 19mm socket and drain the used oil into the bowl. Once the oil has stopped pouring out replace the sump plug complete with new copper washer.

Dispose of your used oil at an oil bank which are found at your local recycling centre.

Change the copper washer on the sump plug every oil change and the oil filter every other oil change.

The oil cap is under the passenger seat for refilling the oil.

Check levels on the dip stick to ensure you have filled it to the correct level.
